Barranggirra is funded by the NSW Government and provides end-to-end support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners through culturally appropriate mentoring to ensure successful retention and completion of training and improved post-training employment outcomes.

Barranggirra achieves the following objectives for Aboriginal people:

  • Increased access, retention and completion of vocational education and training
  • Aspiration and expectation of career pathways
  • Improved post-training outcomes
  • Increased placement in meaningful and sustainable employment
  • Greater confidence in making decisions that maximise training and employment experiences and outcomes
  • Greater opportunity for Aboriginal business ownership and economic independence

Barranggirra achieves the following objectives for employers:

  • Improve the experience of learners within the workplace
  • Gain cultural support within industry and organisational spaces to support job retention and development
  • Engagement with local industry employers and major corporations in referring Apprenticeship and Traineeship initiative information for recruitment
  • Access to information for Aboriginal employment, training, and other community services that Ungooroo provides
  • Increased engagement opportunities and networking with Aboriginal communities and services

Our Service Area

Ungooroo delivers support through the Barranggirra program in various locations throughout the Hunter, Mid North Coast and North Coast regions. The team can provide support in areas including Newcastle, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Taree, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Ballina and Lismore.

We offer tailored face to face mentoring support for learners in Registered Training Organisations, Group Training Organisations and employer locations. Virtual or online support may also be provided given our learners needs.

Am I Eligible?

Aboriginal learners undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship, or part qualification and/or full qualification through the Smart and Skilled program.

Learners must have a TCID (training contract ID) or CID (commitment ID) to be eligible for Barranggirra.
